Japanese and Japanese American Painters in the United States: A Half Century of Hope and Suffering, 1896-1945, page 69, plate #72
I have a letter from 1994 from the National Academy of Design that states this artist won the second Halgarten Prize in 1920. I can only speculate that this painting could have been the prizewinner(?). The artist also lost most of his art when he had shipped much of it to Japan. In 1923, Yokohama and most of Tokyo were destroyed by earthquakes and fire. The artist was from the New York School of Asian American artists and exhibited widely in New York.
