Early in his career George Chann had many solo museum exhibitions of his portraiture and landscape paintings. He was represented by important galleries in California and New York. Chann was the first Chinese American to receive a solo exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum, in 1942. He is now recognized internationally for his abstract paintings, which basically comprised the second half of his long art career, beginning in the 1950's. The overseas Asian art scene has become much more aware of the important contributions of the senior Chinese American artists, with auction results rising.
